I have the honour to transmit for your

information the enclosed copy of a letter from the Acting Com- mandant of the HongKong Volunteer Corns to the Deputy Assistant Adjutant General, and Chief Staff Officer relating to the per- manent staff of the Corps and recommending certain alterations therein.

2. Major-General Gascoigne urges this increase or the staff, which is I, think necessary in consequence of the large increase in the number of the Corps. I have pro- visionally approved of the appointment and have the honour to request your approval.
